For Sylar [
heroslayer]
Jun. 2nd, 2010 10:31 am[ooc: Even though we haven't gotten them there in actual play, yet, mun is going to assume they've made it to the carnival for purposes of leaving gift. >.>]
Getting away from the carnival to gift shop isn't the easiest thing to do, especially when she can't really use her credit cards anymore, nor does she necessarily have her old job, and doesn't feel right asking Samuel for money, or Sylar to turn something to gold for his own present. But it turns out there are amazing craftsmen in the carnival, and others with just the gifts she needs as well. Smug, Melissa manages a collaboration, with sketches she remembers from art history classes, and a quick internet cafe visit for the three of them into town for some research time one afternoon. By the time the day comes, they've managed it.
It's iron, not bronze, but it works--in theory--and she's pleased. He needs things that challenge him, things to distract him from all the ticking in the heads around them now, things to fiddle with, figure out how they work, and this...well. This gives him the whole universe to work with, and out here away from the cities, when the lights go out for the evening? Well, they've got the sky for it, that's for sure.
Several of the carnies have telescopes, so she didn't bother with that--it's share and share alike around here, and no one's ever got them all in use unless there's a meteor shower going on, and even then, everyone takes turns looking, she's been assured. If he wants a closer look, he can have that. No, what she's had made, with careful precision from ancient digs around the world, and so many finds, is an iron astrolabe:

It's wrapped in a box, with a note attached:
I know we've pulled ourselves out of the world, and into one that has to be as difficult as it is fascinating for you sometimes. I thought maybe this would help open up the mysteries and wonders of another one to help. Maybe once you figure out how to work it--and I've no doubt you will--you can show all you're learning to me.
I love you. Happy birthday.
Melissa
